1-wire Rain Gauge Died

Hi,

My 1-wire rain gauge has died, I have checked and redid all the connections to my dual counter module but still nothing. I have come to the conclusion the counter module itself has died.

I originally got the module from hobby boards, however they are no longer in business. Does anybody know where I can get a new dual counter or something equivalent from?

I have attached a picture of my current one.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Neil

I don’t know that board or where to get equivalents, but that battery looks pretty ancient. Have you tried changing it for a new one to see if that’s the problem?

As far as I am aware the battery is just a backup, it makes sure the memory is not reset when the counter is disconnected from the 1wire network.

I don’t think it’s to difficult to make one using a BAE0910 Multifunction I/O IC chip

I think hb used this chip to replace the Dallas counter chip

Tomorrow Will look to see if i have any spares,

Have a look at https://www.sheepwalkelectronics.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=68&osCsid=5b6df49cc963ae482f5a11a2418234ed

This would work it’s been around for some time

I’ve got two for sale plus other 1-wire weather sensors. See For Sale…

Thanks for the link - do you know if this would be as simple as connecting this device to my exisiting setup and it should work (nothing else to do?). In my current setup I connect two wires from the network cable to the screw terminals. In this case it appears to have an RJ45 socket, therefore I could plug straight into that - which is a bit easier. Is that correct?

Thanks,
Neil

The module allows you to connect to the I/O pins via either screw terminals, pin headers (ideal for R/C servos) or an RJ45 socket.

can you please check your battery with a multimeter

The battery is very easy to replace I can add a webpage showing how to replace the battery

I will take some voltage readings on my rain gauge .Will take some photos

Will show you how to clean circuit board

If the tests workout on your device it will definitely just be a matter of replacing a battery

Please bear with me
Mick

Good timing on the post - I purchased a new battery yesterday on the off chance it might fix my problem (as mentioned previously, I assumed the battery was a backup only but thought I would give it a try). Anyway, it took a bit of fiddling to prise the old battery out and replace with the new one. Once I did that I put everything back together and it worked straight away - just like brand new. So the battery was the issue!!

The new battery is a little loose now, however I will apply some tape just to keep the connection nice and tight - but other than that it appears to be working fine.

Thanks Mick for helping me out/providing suggestions - and Chris with the original suggestion re battery. Much appreciated.
Neil

good work everyone
